Ghosts of the Shadow Market

Cassanra Clare released the newest addition to the Shadowhunter Universe in June, and I got it as soon as I could. I like to call the period of obsession over a book once I’ve read it a “book high.” So I apologize, I’m still on a book high after reading Ghosts of the Shadow Market. I had been kind of out of the loop for a while after reading the last book in the Dark Artifices series, so I wasn't sure about what GOTSM was about other than the shadow market. I was lucky enough to get an entire 600 pages on my favorite character from any of Cassie’s books, Jem Carstairs. I cried 3 or 4 times reading, most often not even from the overwhelming sadness of seeing Jem as a Silent Brother! Seeing Will and Jem made me so happy and also so eager to read Chain of Gold, which won’t be out until March. My hometown was also visited by Jem which was extremely surprising and exciting and I may or may not have shot up, told every member of my household, and texted multiple friends to tell them, all of which, did not care. It was so cool to have places that I knew by heart, that I had lived my whole life visiting and living around, through a perspective of an author. Cassie used stories and “magical” places that everyone around here knows and I loved seeing something from my real life meet something from the places I can typically only read about or visit. Cassandra Clare is a master at characters and creating people that are easily relatable and that feel authentic, it’s one of the reasons why I think I’ll be reading her words even after she’s “off my reading level.” Though I have many more emotions about GOTSM and Cassandra Clare’s universe in general, I don’t know if ranting about Mina or the fact that I don’t get more Kit Herondale until 2023 is appropriate for a book review. :)

Happy Reading!
